The design process

Initial steps

Please get in touch with Suki's Gardens by phone or email to discuss your project and to arrange a free, no-obligation first visit.

If you decide to proceed, a second visit will be arranged where we will work our way through a detailed questionnaire about the requirements and ambitions you have for your garden. The questionnaire covers everything from who will use the garden (e.g. children, pets, people with disabilities) and what you need from your garden (e.g. play area, space for entertaining, vegetable plot) to garden styles and colour themes that you prefer. By gaining a full understanding of your likes, dislikes and needs, we can ensure that the final design is exactly what you hoped for.

Concept Plan

After going through the questionnaire, we will arrange a time to come back and photograph your garden and take measurements. This will enable us to produce basic concept plans which show the general position of the main features of the new garden. At this stage, alterations can be made to the location of various features, or ideas from different designs can be combined. Once an overall concept plan has been finalised, work can start on the more detailed layout, planting and construction plans as required.

The garden Layout Plan is essentially the finalised Concept Plan, showing the final position of all the main features of the new garden. This includes any hard landscaping such as patios, pergolas and paths as well as the position of trees and larger shrubs. It can be used by the homeowner or contractor as a masterplan when building the new garden.

The Planting Plan shows the name. number and position of all plants in the new garden.  Depending on the size of the garden, several planting plans covering individual beds or borders may be required.

Construction drawings specify how certain features within the garden should be built. Technical drawings are usually not necessary for simple hard-landscaping elements such as standard paving or a simple pergola. However, if your design includes anything bespoke then we can provide technical drawings detailing exactly how it should be constructed.

Plant sourcing, setting out and planting

We are also able to source plants and plant them for you to complete your new garden. We regularly source trees, shrubs and perennials from a range of nurseries across Scotland and, with access to trade prices, can provide a very competitive quote.
